Mechanical Fitter / Workshop Engineer – Marine & Industrial Engineering Salary: £15.00 – £18.50 per hour Overtime: Time and a Half & Double Time Available Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 Location: Southampton About the Role We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Workshop Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established engineering business specialising in marine and industrial repair services. You will be involved in the repair, refurbishment, and assembly of mechanical equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, motors, and rotating machinery. This is a hands-on, varied role that offers long-term stability, overtime opportunities, and the chance to work on interesting engineering projects. Key Responsibilities Strip down, inspect, repair, and rebuild gearboxes, pumps, motors, and rotating equipment Perform turning, milling, drilling, and fitting work using conventional workshop machinery Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out maintenance, fitting, and overhaul tasks Work from engineering drawings and technical documentation to tight tolerances Ensure all repairs meet quality, safety, and compliance standards Support wider workshop activities and assist with continuous improvement initiatives Requirements Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Fitter, or Workshop Engineer Proven hands-on experience with rotating machinery, hydraulics, or pneumatics Skilled in manual machining (lathes, mills, drills) and precision fitting work Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Team-orientated with strong communication and safety awareness What’s in It for You Competitive hourly rate with overtime paid at premium rates Day shift hours – Monday to Friday (early finish Fridays optional depending on workload) Secure, long-term role within a growing engineering company Varied and technically interesting work on both marine and industrial projects Opportunity for further training and development How to Apply If you are a skilled Mechanical Fitter looking for a stable and rewarding workshop-based position, we’d love to hear from you.
