Key purpose of the job:
As a Social Care Worker, you will provide holistic Supports with day-to-day living, for individuals with a learning disability, autism or associated mental health needs.
You will deliver person-centred and empowering provisions of support, to meet the individual needs of our service users.
Main responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this role. The post holder may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs, changing business practices and/or to meet the needs/changing needs of the Service User.
Service User
* Provide assistance to Service Users in all aspects of personal care.
* Ensure the Human Rights of each Service User is exercised with the utmost degree of integrity and respect.
* Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times for both Service Users, work colleagues and visitors to the unit/house.
* Encourage each Service User to live according to their own wishes and preferences, promoting their individuality through new opportunities, skill development, and recognition of innate abilities.
* Provide relevant information to Service Users for informed decision-making at all levels.
* Support Service Users in the least restrictive ways, promoting positive risk-taking and respecting their autonomy.
* Support must be in accordance with low arousal and non-aversive approaches.
* Set and work towards personal outcomes for Service Users with clear goals, steps, and timeframes.
* Prioritize supports and adhere to key commitments.
* Work in line with evidence-based practices.
* Support Service Users to live fulfilling lives and remain socially valued members of their communities.
* Maintain a positive and professional attitude, contributing to the team and wider organisation.
Regulation
* Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness; ensure safe food practices and infection control procedures are followed and documented.
* Keep accurate records, risk assessments, and complete daily paperwork.
* Follow medication administration procedures, ensuring the 10 rights are observed, and documentation is correct and timely.
* Adhere to policies and procedures regarding safeguarding, medication, and finances.
* Participate in meetings, reviews, and training sessions as required.
* Contribute to a high-quality, professional service within the team.
Person Specification – Social Care Worker
Qualifications & Experience
Third Level Qualification or equivalent in Social Care or related discipline, and/or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in roles such as Day Services, Domiciliary Care, Residential Care, supporting individuals with learning disabilities or autism, including challenging behaviours.
Assessment via application, certificates, interview, and practical assessments.
Skills & Knowledge
* Competent in Microsoft Word & Outlook; experience with Excel and SharePoint.
* Knowledge of Regulatory Frameworks and best practices (e.g., RQIA).
* Full, current UK/ROI driving license and access to a car, or alternative transport for work purposes.
