We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.


Responsibilities

* Lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) and act as the strategic lead for the management of financial investigations to fulfil obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, providing strong leadership, motivation, development, performance management and delivery oversight.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). Influence at senior levels to ensure Environment Agency priorities are supported by external enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in continually improving how we work and increasing understanding of POCA; share lessons learnt, contribute to changes in technical documentation and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Contribute to the team’s national remit by working with dispersed enforcement staff and partners to address serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.


The Team

The Economic Crime Unit is made up of two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team. These teams include Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The ECU is a nationally dispersed team working with enforcement staff and partners across the country.


Experience / Skills Required

You must have exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team. You will have a good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act. In addition, you must have experience of:

* Working in the law enforcement sector and an understanding of the National Intelligence Model
* Communicating effectively including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it


Contact and Additional Information

This is a hybrid working role and you’ll work flexibly from home and your nearest office. There will be a requirement for travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of what we do. You'll be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you. Interviews will take place w/c 3rd November 2025.
