UK Management College is looking for an enthusiastic and confident individual to join our team as the Student Success Tutor. Our business is growing rapidly, and this role will be a vital part of the success of our students. The position is office‑based on our new campus in Sunderland and requires face‑to‑face interaction. No two days will be the same – it will be busy and fast paced. The Student Success Tutor will assist students to ensure they are supported, dealt with fairly, efficiently, and with optimum results.


Core Responsibilities

* Provide guidance to students regarding the support available to them.
* Engage students' interests and enthusiasm, inspiring them to learn.
* Support students in building relationships with other students and faculty, fostering a sense of belonging to the community.
* Enable students to take responsibility for and become partners in their learning, academic progression, and achievement.
* Develop appropriate methods and resources for teaching and learning support in relation to lectures, tutorials, seminars, and online classes.
* Monitor student progress, providing support, including advice on study skills.
* Analyse student difficulties, recommending instant support to resolve issues or referring on as appropriate.
* Recognise mitigating circumstances, deferral processes and other academic regulations to ensure students receive precise support and suggestions based on their situation.
* Provide basic academic support inside and outside the classroom.
* Help students find appropriate learning resources.
* Recognise and report usual academic and IT‑related matters that might benefit from a preventive resolution.
* Monitor student attendance on a session‑by‑session basis and use the support team to identify any risks.
* Ensure students remain engaged and continue their studies by overcoming any barriers.
* Work closely with the student support team to develop a multidimensional support system for students.
* Work with the academic team to contact all students who have not submitted assessments and assist in the retention process where needed.
* Be proactive in identifying and escalating areas of risk to the student experience or institutional reputation.
* Actively participate in enrolment and induction processes to establish a strong link with students from the first moments of their journey.


Key Responsibilities in Practice

1. Arrange to provide contact details to the student during registration.
2. Actively participate in face‑to‑face or online induction activities.
3. Retain records of meetings or other means of contact in accordance with Data Protection legislation and University guidelines.
4. Arrange to meet or have contact with the tutee at least once per term.
5. Be familiar with services available both inside and outside the classroom (e.g. Student Support, Library).
6. Direct students to appropriate academic colleagues when additional programme support is needed.
7. Monitor the student's progress and direct them to individual support if their progress is unsatisfactory.
8. Respect the student's right to confidentiality, obtaining permission when necessary; in exceptional circumstances disclosure may be required to avoid significant risk.
9. Direct the student to appropriate support for the development of study skills.
10. Respect the student's right not to seek or accept support even if disadvantageous to their progress.
11. Act as an advocate for the student where appropriate and contribute to requests for references.
12. Comply with the School's Equality and Diversity policy when undertaking all activities.
13. Undertake appropriate professional development to benefit the role. The post holder must carry out responsibilities with due regard for UKMC's Equal Opportunities Policy.


Qualifications and Experience

* Bachelor's degree from any UK recognised university and minimum 1 year of experience in a HEI teaching or academic support role.
* A clear understanding of how the academic team works.
* Good understanding of current practice and developments in own discipline.
* Understanding of evidence‑led/practice‑based teaching and its implementation.
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
* Ability to coordinate and prioritise a range of activities effectively.
* Flexibility, approachability, helpfulness, strong customer‑service ethic and willingness to go the extra mile.
* Experience in tutoring and/or providing support for the academic experience of students.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Collegiate approach to work.
* Ability to work courteously and effectively with a team of academic staff.
* Adaptability to a flexible approach in a busy college/department, accommodating changing priorities when required.

Additional Responsibilities:

* Accept responsibility for ensuring that all Health and Safety policies are adhered to at all times.
* Respect confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with GDPR 2018 and the Data Protection Act 2018.
* Ensure all work is carried out professionally, timely, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.
* Possess a good understanding of and adherence to Safeguarding and welfare requirements and rules.
* Promptly undertake required training for the role and any institutional training required.
