Temporary Family Engagement Officer (Ysgol Gynradd Glyn-coch)

Salary: Grade 6 £28,142 x 77.15%

Location: Pontypridd

The Temporary Governing Body of Ysgol Gynradd Glyn‑coch wish to appoint a Family Engagement Officer to work within the new school to complement our existing teams. The school will open on 1 September 2026; you may be required to work across both sites of Cefn and Craig Yr Hesg Primary Schools until the new building is completed.

As our Family Engagement Officer, you’ll play a vital role in building meaningful relationships with families, empowering them to support their children’s learning and wellbeing. You’ll be part of a forward‑thinking team that values creativity, inclusivity, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Key Objectives for the Role: The role of the Family Engagement Officer is to assist in tackling underachievement and poverty by working in partnership with families, parents, carers, pupils and community members as well as other agencies where appropriate to enable pupils, particularly the most disadvantaged, to have full access to educational opportunities and to support families to overcome barriers to learning and participation in school life and in the life of their communities.

The Family Engagement Officer will focus on preventative and early intervention activities, such as improving attendance and promoting family learning. Their work will target situations where the needs of families and community members do not meet the thresholds for statutory services. A key responsibility will be coordinating services and developing an integrated model in partnership with other agencies, with schools serving as the central point of delivery.

General Duties and skills required of Role:

* Be responsible for working with families to improve levels of attendance and understand the barriers that are preventing their children from attending, especially those with identified needs.
* To work with our early childcare providers to ensure a smooth transition between home and school.
* To work with our feeder high schools to ensure a smooth transition for identified pupils in need of support.
* To facilitate parent workshops to support families and pupils on identified needs.
* To look for and apply for grant funding to support the school in its aims of meeting the needs of our pupils.
* To support school events to ensure identified pupils and families attend and feel included.
* To work with and liaise with organisations and agencies within our community that support our identified pupils and families.
* To work with children and families who are in need of serious support from a range of agencies;
* To deal with all matters of confidentiality with tact and discretion;
* Operate relevant ICT packages (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, spreadsheets, internet);
* Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others;
* Participate in training opportunities and professional development as required; including safeguarding, attendance, wellbeing;
* To adhere to school policy on equality and diversity; safeguarding, wellbeing;
* To contribute to the overall ethos/aims;
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the Headteacher or Senior Management team.
