Offer description

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic clinical pharmacist with an interest in Antimicrobials & HIV?

Would you like to work alongside our Consultant Pharmacist in Antimicrobial Stewardship, providing clinical expertise and leadership to patients requiring complex infection management, and delivering a high-quality antimicrobial stewardship service across the Trust?

Are you at a stage in your career where you are looking to develop your clinical skills and manage the pharmacy service for Sexual Health and HIV patients?

Would you like to work towards credentialing for a consultant post while utilizing your skills as a Non-Medical prescriber?

If so, we would love to hear from you!

Depending on your career stage, further study will be encouraged and supported. Practice research is also encouraged in this role.

This role is envisaged as an equal split between Antimicrobial Stewardship and HIV, but there is flexibility depending on candidates’ knowledge and experience.

Candidates who meet the qualifications for this post but may not yet demonstrate the full knowledge or experience required at Band 8a will still be considered for this role as a Band 7 to Band 8a progression opportunity. The successful candidate will receive the necessary support to achieve the required progression milestones and demonstrate the expected level of practice before progressing to an advanced specialist Band 8a role.

Responsibilities include:

1. Providing a high-quality, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service.
2. Promoting the safe, rational, and effective use of antimicrobials across the trust.
3. Leading and providing an advanced clinical pharmacy service to the HIV team.
4. Establishing clearly defined roles for pharmacist non-medical prescribers within HIV and antimicrobials.
5. Developing pharmacy services to ensure efficient resource use, including monitoring drug expenditure, delivering financial savings, and enabling early discharge.
6. Collaborating with pharmacy, microbiology/infection control, medical, and nursing staff on programmes identified by the antimicrobial steering group.
7. Developing a framework for safe, cost-effective, and rational prescribing for patients with HIV.
8. Working with the antimicrobial steering group, clinical, and governance teams to develop guidelines, protocols, and PGDs for antimicrobials & HIV/Sexual Health.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff and those with recent relevant experience, including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon, as per the Person Specification.

From September 2024, the University of Bath MPharm degree will be available at the University of Plymouth, with opportunities for educational activities and future roles.
