Health, Safety and Wellbeing Senior Advisor

Old Oak Common Station - London

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a H&S Senior Advisor to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London - join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.

HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.

The role of Senior Health & Safety Advisor is to support the project to drive H&S performance, ensuring efficient and effective advice and support to meet and where possible exceed operational requirements supporting the Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Lead/H&S Manager to achieve Zero Harm objectives.

This role is specifically aimed at someone who is able to manage staff and creating strategies. Evidence of this will be essential.

What you'll be doing

* Lead delivery of the Safe at Heart strategy through visible leadership.
* Provide expert HSW advice, guidance, and support to project teams.
* Promote zero harm by engaging with internal/external stakeholders and supply chain.
* Conduct site inspections and record findings via Project Portal.
* Monitor and review H&S risk management to highlight risks and opportunities.
* Support investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses per BB/HS2 standards.
* Collaborate with design and engineering teams to reduce HSW risks at design stage.
* Drive innovation and continuous improvement in HSW practices.
* Mentor and support development of HSW colleagues.
* Promote BBVS policies, values, Golden Rules, and HS2 commitments.

Who we're looking for


Essential Qualifications

* Level 6 H&S qualification (e.g. Diploma, NVQ, Degree) or working towards it.
* Working towards or already holding Chartered Membership of IOSH.


Desirable Certifications

* BSI Lead Auditor (ISO 45001) or Internal Auditor certification.


Essential Skills & Experience

* Experience managing a team and nurturing a positive team culture.
* Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
* Confident influencing and promoting a positive HSW culture at all levels.
* Skilled in project planning, management, and working within budgets.
* Experienced in incident investigation and reporting.
* Ability to produce clear, formal HSW reports.
* Broad experience in construction, civil engineering, or similar complex environments.
