As a Specialist Service Manager, you will line‑manage Support Workers, lead your service effectively and ensure we are responsive to those we support in a caring and safe environment while meeting legislative obligations and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Translate the organisation’s vision into everyday service delivery and support staff to capture the wider business strategy.
* Supervise, train and continuously develop the team while promoting a positive, can‑do culture.
* Hold team members accountable, ensuring expectations are understood and resources are provided.
* Make and communicate considered decisions clearly and in a timely manner.
* Identify individual needs and propose and design packages of support, including property and staffing requirements.
* Oversee safe recruitment and selection of employees and maintain appropriate staffing levels.
* Deliver responsive, effective safe care and support in a person‑centred manner.
* Ensure the team meets legislative and policy requirements, including Safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act and risk management.
* Maintain CQC registration compliance and meet contractual obligations.
* Build and sustain relationships with families, commissioners, advocates and other professionals.
* Confirm delivery of contracted hours and that payment arrangements are in place.
* Identify bespoke learning and development needs and maintain mandatory training for staff.
* Review and evaluate the service to identify opportunities for improvement.
* Ensure outcomes for service users are met, reviewed and aligned with their personal growth.
* Guide practice, deliver outcomes‑based and person‑centred services, and manage associated risks.
* Balance individual rights and choices with the duty of care.
* Respond to local need, fill service voids promptly and support individual preferences and desires.
* Support colleagues in monitoring and managing KPI data such as employee retention, sickness absence and void fill.
* Enhance quality of services through collaboration with key stakeholders.
* Ensure effective, ongoing communication within the service and with external agencies.
* Identify and act on opportunities to collaborate across networks.
* Participate in regular supervisions, 1:1s and reviews to grow personally and professionally.
* Maintain a personal development plan and professional development journal.
* Report safeguarding concerns regarding vulnerable individuals in care.
* Recruit, train and interview new staff in partnership with the training team.
* Enable service users to live fulfilling lives based on their individual needs and aspirations.
* Implement risk assessments and induction programmes for all new service users.
Ideal Candidate
* Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent experience.
* Experience of line management and leading teams within the support services sector.
* Compassionate, caring and genuinely passionate about helping service users achieve independence.
* Positive attitude and ability to influence others in challenging situations.
* Willingness to support colleagues and work effectively as part of a team.
