Farm Manager
Location: Northeast Lincolnshire
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, with alternate weekend working
About the Role
Cranswick is seeking an experienced Farm Manager to actively manage and be involved with all areas of the pig breeding, rearing and finishing unit and its staff to meet the business requirements.
This role requires the ability to understand production data to meet and exceed targets, a solid understanding of planning and logistics and importantly, the capability to strictly enforce our high standards of animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage all full time and agency staff on the unit
* Responsible for the condition of livestock on the unit – feeding, moving, serving, treating, vaccinating and handling the pigs
* Ensure that animal welfare is in accordance with company policies, including audits and Red Tractor Assured Standards
* Ensure that all equipment/farm machinery (fixed and movable) is used safely and for the purpose it is designed for and always remains in good condition
* Support staff to understand the importance of biosecurity and security of the unit, checking all gates are locked
* Have overall site responsibility ensuring all buildings and compounds are secured out of working hours
* Support staff to ensure that all consumables – feed, medicines etc., are used in the correct manner for their intended purpose
* Manage and complete weekly paperwork with accuracy
* Be willing to participate in training on the farm unit and in a classroom as required
* Responsible for the unit being kept clean and tidy and presentable to visitors
* Work with your team to meet designated performance targets, managing performance of staff and pig production to bring about best results
* Manage full time and agency staff on the unit, helping to provide leadership, commercial focus and direction to the team
* Maintain positive working relationships with your Line Manager, farm team and landlord
* Liaise with the Production Manager, Breeding Manager and other Senior Management as required
About You
* A desire to work with animals and uphold our animal welfare standards
* The ability to understand production data to meet and exceed targets
* An understanding of the importance of planning and logistics
* A strong desire to learn and develop new skills
* Previous experience in management or a leadership role and the ability to develop and train your team
* Excellent communication skills, enabling you to convey information clearly, listen actively and collaborate effectively
* A full UK driving licence with own transport is essential due to location
