Our client, based in South Cambridgeshire, is looking for a Buyer to join their small, family business. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a hands-on role, with responsibility for a portfolio of thousands of part codes. The role includes day-to-day operational responsibilities.\n\nThe Buyer will focus on the setup and management of our client’s MRP system, lead on all international and UK purchasing, and oversee another team member.
A strong track record in MRP, price negotiation, supplier management, and supply chain optimisation are all essential for this role. This is a full time (37.5hrs per week), permanent position. Candidates will need to have their own transport due to the rural location.\n\nResponsibilities will include:\n\n * Managing and optimising the company’s procurement processes, covering both UK and international suppliers\n\n * Taking full ownership of the setup and running of our client’s MRP system, ensuring it runs efficiently, and accurately reflects business needs\n\n * Supervising and supporting one direct report within the purchasing team\n\n * Securing the best possible pricing, terms, and service levels\n\n * Sourcing new suppliers and materials to support innovation and cost reduction\n\n * Maintaining appropriate stock levels by forecasting demand and monitoring usage\n\n * Evaluating supplier performance and ensuring compliance with contracts and agreements\n\n * Identifying and implementing procurement process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.\n\nTo be suitable for this role, candidates will need to have the following skills and experience:\n\n * Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing and operating an MRP system in a manufacturing or distribution setting\n\n * 5+ years' experience in a senior procurement or buying role\n\n * Ability to manage, mentor, and develop staff\n\n * High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong analytical skills\n\n * Proficient in Excel and procurement/ERP systems (experience with Sage is advantageous)\n\n * CIPS qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential.\n\nCandidates will need to have their own transport due to the rural location
