The Warehouse Operative / HGV Class 2 Driver is responsible for the safe handling, storage, and movement of freight within a bonded warehouse environment and across airside and landside areas. The role also includes office-based administrative duties supporting customs processing, Port Health requirements, and general facility operations
Role Responsibilities:
Warehouse Duties
Unload loose and unitised freight and carry out check weighing.
Verify that documentation and freight reference numbers match.
Store freight safely in the correct temperature-controlled locations.
Retrieve freight for Port Health inspections and assist as required.
Maintain a clean and presentable warehouse environment, ensuring spillages are cleared immediately.
Verify driver identification before releasing freight.
Follow bonded warehouse security procedures and ensure doors remain secure when not in use.
Driving Duties
Ensure vehicles are roadworthy prior to use.
Collect and transfer consignments using pallet mover trucks.
Organise and prioritise freight collections and deliveries.
Communicate effectively with TSO management, office staff and warehouse personnel regarding freight movements
Office Duties
The role includes responsibility for general office and administrative functions, including:
Answering telephone enquiries
Inputting data into the company database and sending file sheet notifications to Port Health
Entering shipment data onto the ABS system for customs action
Invoicing and billing shipments through the database
General document filing
Maintaining system checks and check sheets
Ensuring all relevant documentation is received before releasing freight to agents or returning freight to the Transit Shed
Releasing freight via ABS or BRN systems
Liaising with customers and authorities including Agents, Transit Sheds, HM Customs, Port Health and DEFRA
Arranging maintenance for the facility, machinery and vehicles when required
Ordering and controlling stock of facility consumables such as cleaning materials
What were looking for?
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel and Access) or willingness to learn
Good communication skills via phone, email and in person
Self-motivated with a flexible approach to work and hours
Ability to work independently and make logical decisions
Able to work effectively within a small team environment
Ability to work rotating shifts
Attention to detail
Good organisational skills
Commitment to safety and security procedures
Ability to carry out physical warehouse work
Ability to perform both warehouse and office-based duties
HGV Class 2 is a must
Forklift License is essential but not mandatory; training will be provided.
