Contentious construction partner

Leeds
Womble Bond Dickinson
Construction
Posted: 22 July
Offer description

Our construction practice is growing. We already have a sizable and impressive national construction practice which operates across major projects and disputes for UK-wide clients. We are regularly instructed on national projects for central government departments, household name retailers, manufacturers, energy providers, tier 1 contractors and developers, universities, and utility providers.

Uniquely, we also have an excellent regional reputation with an unparalleled local client base in the North, supporting some of the region's critically important infrastructure projects.

The disputes we advise on arise from a broad range of construction and engineering projects, including defending and bringing claims for delay, disruption, loss and expense, defective workmanship, materials, and design to the Technology and Construction Court (TCC). We also advise clients on landmark cases involving adjudications, arbitrations, all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, and insurance-related issues.

As we build for future success, we are looking to expand our construction disputes practice at Partner level in the North. This could involve leading a newly expanding team in our Leeds office or joining a more established team in Newcastle or Edinburgh. All locations offer opportunities for professional and personal development, playing a vital role in growing our business and supporting team management and development. We pride ourselves on offering comprehensive services to the construction, real estate, chemicals, and energy sectors, providing unique opportunities to work with exceptional colleagues in the UK, US, and internationally via our Lex Mundi relationships to develop your skills and serve our clients effectively.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

We seek an individual with a strong track record in construction disputes work, capable of leading all contentious aspects of major construction and infrastructure projects. This includes disputes at the TCC, ADR, adjudication, and arbitration.

You will bring a reputation for technical excellence, exceptional client management skills, and a business growth mindset. Our teams in construction, real estate, and energy will provide a solid platform for your practice development, with ample support for marketing and growth. Whether you are an experienced lawyer aiming for Partnership or a current salaried Partner seeking a different platform, you will see this as an opportunity to further your successful career within our ambitious and supportive Partnership.

Minimum requirements include:

* An enterprising mindset and self-motivation.
* A proven track record advising on a broad range of construction disputes regionally and nationally.
* The ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team across locations and jurisdictions to deliver exceptional client service.
* Ability to identify business growth opportunities through your reputation, technical expertise, and relationships.
* A commitment to developing junior lawyers.
* An understanding of delivering legal services at a top 20 law firm, including revenue prioritization, commercial mindset, and efficient matter management.
* Admitted as a lawyer in the UK or a similar jurisdiction. Dual qualification in Scotland and England & Wales is required for consideration for our Edinburgh office.
