This post is a specialised position within a multidisciplinary team comprising Neurophysiology and Diagnostic Sleep Physiology. It involves maintaining and contributing to excellent standards of patient care particularly in Neurophysiology, contributing to further growth and development to improve the quality diagnostic procedures for patients referred from; tertiary care, outpatient and inpatient and non-dedicated environments as well as patients from primary care settings. It may be required that the post holder will work cross-sites.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team providing both outpatient and inpatient activity over a range of Neurophysiological procedures. You will be expected to provide training for junior staff.

The department consists of 3 Consultants, 1 Principal Clinical Neurophysiologist, 1 Highly Specialised Physiologist, 3 Specialised Physiologists, and 3 physiologists. In addition there are 4 sleep Physiologists and an admin team.

Main duties of the job

· Providing outpatient clinics independently performing and interpreting all modalities of Electroencephalography and Evoked Potential recordings, providing continual evaluation of the recording to assess the patient state to maintain patient safety and quality at all times.

· Independently provide all modalities of Electroencephalography and Evoked Potential recordings in a non-dedicated environment providing continual evaluation of the recording to assess patient state and requirement of emergency medical input.

· Independently perform upper limb nerve conduction studies in outpatient clinics in parallel with Consultant Neurophysiologists would be desirable.

· Analysing and interpreting sleep diagnostic procedures would be desirable.

· Set up, issue, download, analyse and interpret multi-channel sleep studies, this includes giving the patient detailed instructions on how to set up the monitor at home would be desirable.

· To remain up to date with new guidelines relevant to the discipline.

The post holder will provide clinical governance to trainee physiologists.

The post holder will ensure as far as possible the safety of patients and staff in accordance with The Health and Safety at Work Act and local Trust Policies. Identifying potential risks to the relevant department manager, and ensure incidents are reported.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential criteria

5. In-depth knowledge of related medical conditions for patients referred into the Neurophysiology department.

Desirable criteria

6. Having experience if training trainee physiologists

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

7. Qualified to BSc in an appropriate field relevant to the area of specialism.
8. Achieved ANS part I examination

Desirable criteria

9. Teaching or mentoring certificate
10. Have achieved ANS part II examination

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

11. Competent to independently perform and interpret all modalities of Electroencephalography.
12. Competent to independently perform all modalities of Evoked potentials.
13. Be able to indicate ongoing professional development and up to date clinical practice in the fields of Neurophysiology.

Desirable criteria

14. Be able to perform upper limb nerve conduction studies.
15. Be able to perform upper limb nerve conduction studies. Have experience in all modalities of diagnostic sleep
