At Siemens Healthineers, we pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. We are driven by our purpose to improve lives through innovative medical technology that transforms care delivery and enables clinicians around the world to make confident, life‑changing decisions. As part of our growing Magnet Technology business, you’ll join a team dedicated to creating the next generation of superconducting magnet solutions that power our MRI systems globally.

About the role

We are looking for a Magnet Engineer to join our specialist team developing the next generation of superconducting magnets used in MRI scanners. This role is ideal for someone with a strong physics background—particularly electromagnetism, superconductivity, applied or experimental physics—and a passion for turning complex scientific principles into high‑impact, real‑world products.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive engineering group of around 10–15 experts, working across the full lifecycle of magnet development. You’ll contribute directly to the design, build and optimisation of high‑performance superconducting magnet systems that make a genuine difference to patients’ lives worldwide.

This role will initially be based at our Eynsham site before being permanently located at our new, £250m state of the art Bicester facility. Hybrid working is available, with three days per week onsite.

What you’ll be doing

* Developing conceptual and detailed designs for superconducting magnets used in MRI systems.
* Applying electromagnetic field theory and performing electromagnetic field calculations using both analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA).
* Working hands‑on with magnetic materials, superconducting wire, coil winding, impregnation processes, and magnet assembly.
* Supporting practical build and test activities, including magnetic field measurement and characterisation.
* Investigating and resolving technical issues, including quench behaviour, superconducting joints, switches, and system‑level problem solving.
* Contributing to continuous improvement and risk‑management activities such as FMEA, DFMA and technical risk assessments.
* Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering groups to deliver reliable, manufacturable magnet solutions.

What skills and experience you’ll bring

Essential

* Degree in Physics or related discipline; a Master’s degree is preferred for those with minimal practical experience.
* Strong understanding of electromagnetism and applied/experimental physics.
* Knowledge of electromagnetic field theory and magnetic field measurement.
* Understanding of superconductivity and superconducting magnet principles.
* Passion for applying physics to real‑world engineering challenges.

Desirable

* Experience with superconducting magnet design, construction or testing.
* Experience with FEA tools for electromagnetic analysis.
* Knowledge of cryogenics or cryogenic systems.
* Industrial or applied research experience in a relevant field.
* Understanding of quench mechanisms, magnetic shielding, shimming or MRI magnet systems.

What’s on offer

* Competitive base salary
* 26 days annual leave, with the option to buy up to 10 and sell up to 5 days
* Up to 10% matched pension contributions
* BUPA Private Medical
* Bonus & Share Save Scheme
* Free on‑site gym
* 2 paid volunteering days each year
