Assistant Accountant Who You Are As an Assistant Accountant, you are an integral part of the finance team, supporting non-finance officers in effectively monitoring and maintaining their budgets. You possess a strong foundation in technical, finance, and accountancy roles, providing accurate and timely financial information and assisting in financial management activities aligned with the Council's strategic aims. What the Job Involves Provide financial support and guidance to non-finance teams for budget monitoring and maintenance. Assist in preparing financial reports, forecasts, and budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations. Support financial data analysis, identifying trends and providing insights for decision-making. Collaborate with stakeholders on financial controls and processes. Contribute to year-end account preparation and adhere to accounting standards. Support senior finance team members in offering financial advice and guidance. Enhance financial reporting capabilities and participate in system improvements. Stay updated on financial regulations and assist in their implementation. Support financial analysis activities and recommend performance improvements. Perform other duties as required by senior management. Skills Recognized technical accountancy qualification/part qualification (e.g., AAT) or equivalent experience Understanding of financial management principles and practices Analytical and problem-solving abilities Good communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in financial management systems and software Intermediate Excel skills and familiarity with MS Office Knowledge of financial regulations and local government accounting standards Technical accounting knowledge Experience in financial monitoring roles and team environments Experience supporting financial year-end processes
