Are you an experienced transport or highways professional looking to lead on the delivery of real, on-the-ground infrastructure projects? East Sussex County Council is seeking a Principal Officer to play a key role in shaping and delivering highway schemes that support new developments across the county.
What you’ll be doing:
* Leading the design and delivery of developer-led highway schemes through S38, S171 and S278 agreements
* Approving highway designs and overseeing construction to ensure quality, safety and minimal disruption
* Managing complex projects, budgets and small-to-medium contracts from start to finish
* Working closely with developers, contractors, planners, emergency services and local councils
* Acting as a technical expert and mentor to colleagues, supporting team development
* Contributing to policy development, governance, reporting and service improvement
What we’re looking for:
* Background in transport planning, planning, civil engineering or a related discipline
* Strong project and stakeholder management experience
* Sound knowledge of highways processes, legislation and development-led schemes
* Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Confident communicator with the ability to lead, advise and influence
* Commitment to continuous professional development and inclusive working practices
