Charity People is delighted to be supporting The Humane League UK in recruiting for a Social Media Coordinator who will take the lead on implementing a digital strategy focused on reaching, engaging, and converting audiences to take action for animals.

The Humane League UK exists to end the abuse of animals raised for food; what began as a grassroots operation has since grown into an effective and global nonprofit organisation with activism at the core of all its work. True disrupters, The Humane League UK advocates tirelessly for the animals that can’t; taking a stand to inspire and create change at institutional and legislative level.

Social Media Coordinator
Contract: As an organisation, The Humane League UK work a four day work week. This is a full time position of 30 hours per week over Monday to Thursday
Salary: £35,870 per annum, or £39,457 including Inner London Weighting. ILW applies to individuals with addresses that have ‘London’ in the town or city field on a Royal Mail address label
Location: Remote, UK based, with the ability to travel for events around two to five times per year
Closing date for applications: midnight on Friday 15th August
Skills test: completed remotely Saturday 23rd to Tuesday 26th August
First stage interviews: held remotely 1st to 3rd September
Second stage interviews: held remotely 8th to 10th September

With responsibility for all social media channels including Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, YouTube and LinkedIn, this is a varied role where, in addition to strategic planning, you will create and schedule a wide range of content, including both static and video.

Core responsibilities will include:

1. Ownership of social media channels including testing, creating, and posting content that is tailored to each channel on a regular basis.
2. Planning and building social media campaigns that strategically integrate goals and consider metrics.
3. Create inspiring concepts and develop these into compelling, on-brand, platform- specific content using tools including Canva and Abode Express.
4. Social media community management including moderating and responding to comments and messages to ensure audiences feel valued and engaged.
5. Regularly monitoring social trends to create topical content, and using tools including Google Analytics, Facebook insights, and Sprout Social to report on post and channel performance, monitoring and evaluating success against goals on a monthly basis.
6. Keep abreast of updating the communications calendar with social media activities.
7. Keep up to date with new features and tech related to social media platforms, as well as other organisations’ activity, to ensure the most engaging and effective content.
8. Contribute to and initiate the development and improvement of processes that improve delivery and collaboration.
9. Encourage and assist staff members in producing social media content, supporting them with creative and technical guidance and giving feedback.
10. Attend events, protests and actions as necessary, developing on-the-ground content plans that effectively showcase our actions and further the organisation’s goals.

We are keen to hear from individuals passionate about both The Humane League UK’s mission of ending the abuse of animals raised for food, and about the power of social media to achieve this aim. With an attention to detail, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills in English, you’ll have a keen eye for copy and the ability to adapt your voice depending on audience.

In addition, you will have the following skills and experience:

11. Strong working knowledge across multiple key social media platforms, particularly Instagram and Facebook – this could be through professional experience or demonstrable extensive personal use.
12. Experience in planning, creating, and scheduling social media content ahead of time, as well as reactive content.
13. An understanding of how different audiences engage with content across various platforms, and what they want to see from each.
14. Confidence using the features and tools of each channel to optimise reach and engagement.
15. Experience using data and analytics to assess social media performance, extract insights, and apply learnings to improve results.
16. Proficiency with editing tools to create both video and static graphic content
