About the Service
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP) has opened a new Mental Health Inpatient Service in Chertsey, Surrey. Silverwood contains four adult inpatient wards and has opened early 2024. Our ambition is to transform inpatient mental healthcare for our local population.
Facilities
The new unit provides 64 beds with single ensuite bedrooms, two lounges and a dedicated garden for each ward, as well as a woodland area for supervised walks. For our colleagues there will also be access to kitchenettes, a lounge, and a dedicated garden.
Role Overview
This role is a fantastic and exciting opportunity to be part of a new service providing excellent care to our patients within a state‑of‑the‑art facility. You will work with experienced, knowledgeable, dedicated colleagues as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, providing effective assessment, treatment, and high‑quality care.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting Daily Living Activities
o Personal care: help with meals and encourage good nutrition and hydration
o Support patients in maintaining personal hygiene and dignity
* Monitoring and Observations
o Carry out and record regular physical and mental health observations (e.g. mood, behaviour, vital signs)
o Report any concerns or changes to the nursing or medical team promptly
* Promoting Recovery and Engagement
o Encourage participation in therapeutic and recreational activities
o Foster a positive, recovery‑focused environment
* Communication and Relationship Building
o Build therapeutic, professional relationships with patients
o Engage in meaningful conversations to provide emotional support
* Maintaining a Safe Environment
o Contribute to the safety and security of the ward (e.g. observing policies around access and observation levels)
o Support patients in distress or crisis, including de‑escalation when needed
* Documentation and Record Keeping
o Accurately record patient care, observations, and incidents using electronic systems
o Ensure documentation is completed in line with trust policies and confidentiality standards
* Teamwork and Professional Development
o Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists, and others
o Attend mandatory training and development opportunities to enhance skills
