Protection & Commissioning Manager
Our client is seeking to appoint a Protection & Commissioning Manager to join the team delivering electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltage levels. This role is responsible for ensuring all work complies with engineered design, company policies, and industry standards, providing final sign-off and approval for safety and functionality across projects valued over GBP50 million.
The position is based out of our client's Northwest or Northeast offices. It offers an attractive permanent salary, full benefits, a 10% bonus, and a fully expensed company vehicle or car allowance, along with opportunities for professional development.
The manager will oversee a team of engineers, develop testing policies and procedures, and undertake assurance and testing for high voltage infrastructure and grid connections typically between 11kV and 132kV. Projects include feasibility, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of substations and related infrastructure.
The Person
* Hold an Electrical Engineering degree with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
* Proven experience managing teams on complex HV/EHV projects.
* Ability to provide hands-on support when leading a team.
* Excellent knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution equipment, including protection and control systems, switchgear, transformers, and circuits.
* Experience in developing technical procedures and QA documentation.
* Understanding of H&S and engineering standards for large projects.
* Experience in developing QA strategies and implementing process changes.
* Support or hold a professional engineering accreditation.
* Strong communication skills, with experience in reports, presentations, and team briefings.
* Analytical mindset with good numerical skills.
* Valid UK driving license.
The Role
* Ensure project delivery aligns with company H&S and technical policies, including creating test policies compliant with manufacturer and design requirements.
* Act as escalation point for technical policy and commissioning during tendering and project execution.
* Accountable for the technical quality of projects valued between GBP10m and GBP50m, including reporting and risk analysis.
* Lead the delivery team on policy and technical standards.
* Maintain policy, testing, and documentation systems in line with ISO standards.
* Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring safety, quality, and budget adherence.
* Represent the company professionally, maintaining good timekeeping and appearance.
* Stand in for the Engineering Design Manager when needed.
* Manage framework contractors and ensure compliance.
* Uphold health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Develop supply chain management strategies.
