We are currently recruiting for a Lighting Technician to work as a self motivated and driven member of the Lighting team to deliver high quality technical services to productions at Glyndebourne and any other venue where the company may perform.
To deliver the lighting requirements for all productions and projects to the highest standards, including high standards of safety, efficiency and operation. This role may also involve programming and operating lighting and special effects for selected productions.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
* Prepare, rig, focus, operate, maintain and troubleshoot lighting equipment for productions and infrastructure/installed systems.
* To operate lighting control systems during rehearsals and performances
* To rig, focus and operate lighting equipment including followspots for performances including assisting with scene changes as required.
* To prepare, maintain and update accurate show notes, cue sheets, risk assessments, method statements and other documentation as appropriate, ensuring they are fit for use by others
* To assist in pre-production work (including installation of set electrics and construction of electrical props)
* To assume responsibility for daily checks of all lighting equipment in the rig and where necessary carrying out fault finding investigations, document and communicating any issues with the equipment
* To carry out firstline maintenance of all production lighting and related equipment
* To prioritise workloads in a rapidly changing environment.
* To maintain backstage areas to the highest standard.
* To work with an awareness of sustainability and environmental impact.
* To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
* To work across 7 days including unsocial hours.
* Any other duties as reasonably required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Significant and demonstrable relevant experience within a producing / receiving house
* Proven expertise fitting up and running shows with an excellent knowledge of lighting and related technical equipment
* Ability to rig, focus and operate lighting equipment including both manual and remote followspot systems for large-scale productions
* An ability to re-create focuses quickly, accurately and safely
* Working knowledge of the use and maintenance of a range of lighting equipment and accessories, including low voltage equipment, LEDs, radio dimming and DMX controlled stage effects
* Knowledge of safe rigging practices.
* An awareness of health and safety within a theatrical environment.
* An understanding of theatrical control systems: OSC, sACN.
* The ability to maintain a professional approach and behave diplomatically in a high stress environment
* Proficient in the use of Windows, Apple & Google computer systems.
* Experience working with creative teams.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Must work excellently alone or as part of a team.
* Must be willing to initiate, plan and take responsibility for projects and activities within Glyndebourne, delivering informal training and passing on skills to assistant and casual technicians.
* A high level of attention to detail.
* Must have the right to work in the UK.
* Training: Manual Handling, Working at Height, Electrical Safety, PAT Testing
Desirable
* Formal technical theatre training or equivalent
* Experience in large scale repertory theatre
* Ability to work under minimum supervision
* Experience working with creative teams.
* Experience with the EOS family of lighting consoles
* An understanding of Sensor 3 dimming systems within a theatrical environment.
* Experience fault finding complex systems
* Experience with radio controlled pyrotechnic and lighting systems
* A working knowledge of CAD systems: AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks
* A knowledge of network infrastructure
* Full UK driving licence
* Training: IPAF, ABTT Silver Electrics, Manufacturer based training for consoles & playback systems
Special Requirements
* To travel, when required, on Glyndebourne business.
Hours of Work
The basic hours of work are 39 per week plus overtime. You will be required to work longer shifts over 6 days during the busiest periods.
Rates of Pay and Benefits
The hourly rate of pay is £14.75 per hour with a guaranteed weekly salary of £722.75.
Overtime rates will apply for any shift longer than 8 hours, a 6th day & Sunday working.
Over half a day’s paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
