About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in developing next-generation scientific instrumentation.
In this role, you will take a proactive, hands-on approach to designing mechanical system architectures, collaborating across disciplines to solve complex challenges. You will deliver robust mechanical, thermal, and opto-mechanical solutions that drive the creation of cutting-edge particle characterisation products.
What you will bring to the role:
* Design & Innovation - Deliver innovative mechanical and opto-mechanical designs, precision mechanisms, thermal management solutions, and robust hardware for advanced scientific instrumentation.
* System Development - Translate customer, application, and product requirements into reliable mechanical system architectures, ensuring precision, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
* Engineering Excellence - Lead 3D CAD modelling, GD&T, DFM/DFA/FMEA processes, and prototype/test mechanical elements (vibration, alignment, life testing) to ensure performance and reliability.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with optical, electronic, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate subsystems, validate performance, and deliver high-quality products.
* Supplier & Manufacturing Support - Specify materials and processes, guide suppliers/contract manufacturers through validation and build phases, and liaise with operations to ensure smooth production transfer.
* Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing - Keep up to date with emerging technologies, contribute to internal/external training, and support problem-solving across product lifecycles.
About you:
* Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or equivalent experience; chartership/accreditation desirable.
* 5+ years in new product development, ideally in scientific instruments or multi-diplinary technologies; regulated environment experience a plus.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with experience in modelling, simulation, prototyping, and experimental validation.
* Proficient in 3D CAD (Solid Edge/SolidWorks), GD&T, and mechanical processes (sheet metal, machining, plastics); knowledge of DfX principles.
* Experience with FEA, thermal management, and simulation software (ANSYS suite preferred); familiarity with PLM and project planning tools
* Skilled at working in cross-functional teams, leading DFA/FMEA activities, and effectively conveying complex technical concepts.
.
Why you should join us:
* Be a part of an ambitious, fast-growing, international company with a friendly and inclusive culture.
* Drive growth within a leading global organisation whose purpose is to work with our customers, to make the world a better place
* Be a key member of our team in our amazing offices
