Research Fellow – Battery Sensing (110869-1025)

This role provides a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake scientific research in battery sensing, development, characterisation and manufacture. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional collaboration funded by the Faraday Institution. Academic partners in the project include the universities of Birmingham, Nottingham, Cambridge and Oxford.


About You

You will need a PhD in a relevant subject, and experience of the theory and practice of sensor development, battery manufacture and testing. You will ideally have experience of battery development including the experimental assessment / characterisation of battery and/or novel sensing technologies. You will have excellent communication skills, be flexible, and be able to work independently and as part of a research team with diverse skills and backgrounds. You will have undertaken complimentary research or development in one or more of the above areas and be able to demonstrate your capability through appropriate academic experience/publication.

PhD Status

If you are near submission of your PhD, or have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made at Research Assistant level, at the highest spinal point of pay grade 5 (£34,610 per annum). Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).


About The Department

The WMG Battery Systems Group combines academics and engineers with industrial experience to address significant challenges of cell manufacture and integration into battery systems across a wide range of applications, including e-mobility, automotive, aerospace, rail, marine and stationary storage. Activities encompass disciplines including electrical, thermal, mechanical, safety, control, simulation and manufacturing.
