Portsmouth Water is looking for a Network Technician for our growing Network department. The role involves conducting a variety of water network field activities, troubleshooting issues, ensuring safe first‑time resolutions, addressing performance issues, optimising water supply systems, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Full training will be provided.
What will you be doing?
* Perform field‑based water network activities within Portsmouth Water's area of supply (South East Hampshire & West Sussex).
* Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, working collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
* Handle planned and reactive work, investigating water network performance (pressure, leakage, metering, supply disruptions).
* Conduct distribution main isolation, asset verification and water quality checks (flushing, sampling).
* Monitor flows, pressures, and water quality (chlorine, turbidity) to ensure safe operations.
* Operate water assets (valves, hydrants) and perform site assessments using GIS and schematics.
* Perform site inspections and provide detailed reports to relevant teams.
* Support office‑based teams, prepare equipment, and support fellow operatives.
* Ensure strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
* Participate in out of hours stand‑by duties in addition to core hours (Mon‑Thu 8 am‑4:15 pm; Fri 8 am‑3:30 pm).
What do you need?
* Clean water industry field experience desirable – pressure/flow, customer enquiries, main isolation, flushing & sampling.
* EUSR Water Hygiene certificate desirable.
* Valve operations including CALM Networks desirable.
* NRSWA Operative (Unit 2) desirable.
* IT proficiency (Office 365, GIS mapping tools, PDA/Tablet use, online reporting software).
* A passion for delivering excellent customer service.
* Strong initiative to problem‑solve field issues.
* Driven by safe, first‑time results and motivated to see activities through from start to finish.
* Track record of owning/leading tasks and activities, delivering jobs to resolution.
* High regard for compliance, putting safety above all else.
* Lead by example and share knowledge, skill and work ethic with the team.
* Ability to work flexibly and reactively depending on business operations and requirements.
* Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Experience working in confined spaces.
* Full UK manual car driving licence (Class B) – driving assessment, ongoing licence checks and additional safety measures required.
