Deputy Underwriting Officer - Casualty, Redhill
Travelers is seeking a Casualty Underwriting specialist to join our Underwriting Office team as Deputy Casualty Underwriting Officer. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in Casualty to support the lead Underwriting Officer and leadership teams across Business Insurance Retail, SME, and Specialty, focusing on monitoring and contributing to the profitable growth of our Casualty and Third Party portfolios.
Your responsibilities will include developing and managing underwriting strategies, collaborating with colleagues in underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams, and overseeing portfolio reviews to ensure business mix, growth, and profit objectives are met. Travelers Europe offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing employees to work three days in the office and two days remotely, subject to policy updates. This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus, with additional referral bonuses possible.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support strategic underwriting initiatives, including setting risk appetite, rate, and market positioning.
* Assist in establishing strategies for rate adequacy and product pricing within assigned portfolios.
* Contribute to governance and oversight of rating tools and infrastructure.
* Analyze emerging trends and provide underwriting guidance accordingly.
* Mentor and coach underwriting staff to meet standards and profitability goals.
* Help establish and review underwriting standards and controls.
* Respond to regulatory and legislative changes impacting underwriting practices.
* Oversee technical content of underwriting materials and coverage documents.
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* Extensive experience in commercial underwriting within property and casualty sectors.
* Leadership skills with the ability to develop and guide team members.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
* Must have strong Casualty underwriting experience.
