Blackpool Sexual Health Services is looking for a new consultant in GUM and HIV to join their established team of Medics/Nurses and other health care professionals. The post holder will provide sexual health and HIV clinical sessions from Whitegate Health Centre, Blackpool, and Fatima Health Centre, Preston. The post holder must hold full and specialist registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council. The service has an active educational programme and the post holder will have an opportunity to participate in the education of undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, nurses and primary care colleagues. The service offers a wide range of sexual health services and related care in line with national guidelines.
Clinical responsibilities
* Support the head of department, head of service and senior medical/nursing staff in the ongoing clinical leadership of the service.
* Undertake expert clinical practice in sexual health and HIV.
* Provide a range of contraceptive methods and specialist clinical services depending on service needs and the skills and interests of the individual.
* Support service provision by non-medical staff within the service.
* Provide medical advice for clinical staff according to the needs of the service.
* Assess and counsel patients with unplanned pregnancy and refer to appropriate agencies for subsequent care including termination of pregnancy services.
* Maintain clinical skills and professional accreditation.
* Participate in ongoing personal development including appraisal and revalidation.
* Maintain accurate records and use IT appropriately.
* Provide on-call advice across Lancashire and South Cumbria for HIV medicine and general sexual health and specialised needlestick advice.
* Support teaching and supervision of trainees and education staff as part of the service.
Management and leadership
* Lead in day-to-day clinical management of the service and contribute to strategic development in line with commissioning criteria and professional guidance.
* Represent the service on sexual health groups and other strategic groups as requested by the Head of Department.
* Participate in maintaining professional and service standards in accordance with professional bodies’ standards.
Teaching, training and education
* Participate in undergraduate teaching sessions and supervise postgraduate trainees as part of the Trust’s education framework.
* Opportunity to engage with research, education, and clinical audit within the Trust’s teaching environment.
Clinical audit, research and development
* Carry out an ongoing programme of clinical audit and participate in regional and national audits where appropriate.
* Contribute to research and development, including NIHR portfolio studies where applicable, in collaboration with the Trust’s Research, Development and Innovation Division.
Contractual commitments and appraisal
* Continued responsibility for patients in your care and the functioning of the service; undertake administrative duties associated with clinical care.
* Participation in annual GMC-guided appraisal and revalidation; CME/CPD maintained in line with college guidelines with support from the Trust.
* New consultant induction and leadership development programmes are provided, with access to coaching and mentoring.
