Pay: From £13.90 per hour
Hours: 8.5 hours, 6-month fixed term contract until 31st March 2026 and Casual Positions
Location: Regent Funeral Services, Saltwell Park, Gateshead
Salary: Grade E (£26,824 - £28,142) pro rata
An exciting opportunity has arisen for three Funeral Service Operative's to join our team at Regent Funeral Services.
The role involves working alongside the deceased and their grieving relatives at times of high pressure. You will be required to assist the funeral director in all funeral duties as required to fulfil the client's instruction. This involves the identification, removal and transportation of the deceased in a caring and compassionate manner, bearing of the coffin, driving and maintaining the cleanliness of funeral vehicles, presenting the deceased for visits in the Chapel of Rest, and liaising with external parties such as clergy, florists and crematoria staff.
You will also be required to participate in the 'on call' rota to provide a 24hr on call service. This will entail taking calls from customers in relation to the funeral service and visiting customers who require deceased family members to be transported into our care in the evenings or at weekends and any sudden deaths in the areas of Gateshead, Newcastle and North Tyneside. This will be a standby arrangement where you will be required to be contactable at all times by telephone.
If you are required to work on the evening and weekend rota, this will consist of working in pairs, covering the out of hours service requirements as identified below:
Monday to Thursday 17:00- 08:00hrs (Call out)
Friday 17:00 through to 08:00am Monday morning (Call Out) All weekend.
You will be paid £19.34 per weekday night plus an hourly rate once you have been called out and £48.40 per weekend day/night then an hourly rate for any call outs.

* The ability to work alone and the flexibility to be part of an 'up to 24 hours on-call' team, 365 days per year.
