Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer (EPLAN) Junior / Mid-Level / Senior Location: Bedford, UK Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent About the Role A key client of mine is expanding their engineering team in Bedford and are recruiting Electrical Design Engineers at multiple levels, from Junior through to Senior. You will contribute to the design and development of electrical control systems using EPLAN Electric P8, supporting projects across concept design, detailed engineering, manufacturing support, and commissioning. Responsibilities will scale with experience and capability. Key Responsibilities (by Level) Junior Electrical Design Engineer Support the creation of electrical schematics and documentation in EPLAN under supervision. Assist with updating drawings, panel layouts, and BOMs. Learn and apply relevant standards and engineering practices. Work closely with senior engineers to develop technical skills. Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas to improve solutions. Provide basic support for panel build, testing, and commissioning activities. Mid-Level Electrical Design Engineer Produce complete electrical designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using EPLAN. Deliver designs that meet project requirements, standards, and deadlines with minimal supervision. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions. Support FAT/SAT, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities. Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures. Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Senior Electrical Design Engineer Lead electrical design activities across projects, ensuring technical excellence and compliance. Develop complex control system architectures, panel designs, and documentation packages in EPLAN. Mentor junior engineers and oversee team output. Act as a technical authority on standards, regulations, and best practices. Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, technical proposals, and client meetings. Review and approve electrical designs, ensuring they meet safety, regulatory, and customer requirements. Provide high-level support during build, testing, and commissioning phases. Skills & Experience (by Level) Junior 02 years' experience in electrical engineering or design. Basic understanding of electrical principles and engineering fundamentals. Exposure to EPLAN or other CAD/CAE tools (training will be provided). Willingness to learn, take guidance, and develop technical competence. Mid-Level 26 years' experience in electrical design engineering within automation, manufacturing, machinery, or related industries. Proven experience producing electrical designs in EPLAN Electric P8. Solid knowledge of electrical standards and safe design practices. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Senior 6 years experience in electrical design engineering. Advanced capability in EPLAN, including macros, project structuring, and complex system design. Strong understanding of industry regulations (IEC/BS EN standards, Machinery Directive, etc.). Experience leading design activities and mentoring engineers. Comfortable engaging with clients, leading reviews, and influencing technical decisions. Qualifications Junior: ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (or studying toward). Mid-Level: HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred). Senior: Degree in Electrical Engineering chartership (or working toward) desirable.
