The Role
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and commercially astute R&D Tax Director to lead and expand our innovation tax offering. This is a strategic leadership role for a seasoned expert with deep technical expertise, a strong network, and a proven track record of driving growth across advisory portfolios.
You’ll lead the development of a high-performing R&D tax proposition, owning key client relationships and shaping compelling solutions that deliver tangible value. You’ll work cross-functionally with our technology, finance and consulting teams, while leveraging data and automation to modernise and scale delivery.
This is an opportunity to build and lead in a high-trust, high-impact environment — free from traditional silos, bureaucracy, or audit conflicts.
What You’ll Do
* Lead the growth and direction of the R&D Tax service line, driving commercial strategy, proposition development and market presence.
* Build and nurture senior client relationships, becoming a trusted adviser across innovation, tax and funding strategy.
* Shape and oversee high-quality delivery of technical engagements, ensuring clarity, compliance and commercial relevance.
* Drive business development and lead the origination of new opportunities across a defined portfolio and wider network.
* Build high-performing delivery teams through mentoring, talent development and cross-functional collaboration.
* Represent Unity Advisory in the market through thought leadership, events, and industry engagement.
* Champion the use of data and automation to scale delivery, reduce risk and enhance client experience.
What You Bring
* Deep technical expertise in UK R&D Tax with extensive experience delivering and reviewing claims across diverse sectors.
* A strong commercial lens, with a track record of origination, pipeline conversion, and growing advisory revenues.
* Outstanding relationship-building skills, with confidence engaging senior finance, tax, and innovation leaders.
* Strategic mindset with a collaborative approach to building propositions and growing capability.
* A passion for innovation, with an interest in the role technology and AI can play in modernising service delivery.
* Recognised credentials such as ACA, CTA, or equivalent experience within a Big 4, consulting, or high-growth advisory environment.
