About the role
Balfour Beatty is currently seeking a Design Delivery Manager - Substations P&C to join their Power T&D team.
Role purpose:
Ensure that competent resources are available to deliver design for our projects.
The Design Delivery Manager is responsible for managing a discipline-specific delivery team:
* Providing strategy, management, and leadership to the team across UK and worldwide offices.
* Promoting cooperation between different teams and wider stakeholders.
* Fostering a proactive team culture that encourages shared learning, best practices, good communication, cross-boundary work, and recognition of success.
What you'll be doing
Key Accountabilities:
* Managing discipline's resources, team development, ensuring sufficient and competent staff for current and future workloads.
* Overseeing the discipline's workload across locations (UK, EDC, others) in collaboration with local Team Leads.
* Monitoring team productivity and performance related to the design delivery process.
* Managing Profit and Loss for the discipline, maximizing opportunities through staff productivity across locations.
* Ensuring tender inputs from the discipline highlight key opportunities and risks, with realistic pricing estimates.
Key Responsibilities:
* Nominating the Lead Designer and other key roles for each project, and allocating work within the team.
* Maintaining high levels of teamwork and cohesion across all locations.
* Collaborating with the discipline Chief Engineer to develop and maintain technical competencies.
* Setting strategic direction aligned with department procedures and the Design Senior Leadership Team.
* Supporting tender development, ensuring budgets, schedules, and risks are managed and reported.
* Tracking progress and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team.
* Planning succession for their role and other key positions within the team.
* Liaising with Project Controls to keep staff information current and facilitate PARAM setup.
* Promoting and demonstrating Group values and behaviors daily.
Who we're looking for
Skills Required:
* Degree or equivalent in Civil, Electrical, or Power Engineering.
* Membership or working towards membership of an Engineering Institution (e.g., ICE, IEEE, IMechE).
* Experience in the Power industry, familiar with NG, SSE, SPEN, and DNO specifications.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to relate at all organizational levels.
