Specialist Dental Nurse

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated dental nurse with excellent communication skills to join our Head and Neck Outpatient team at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH). Head and Neck is a multi‑speciality service covering ENT and oral and maxillofacial surgery across both inpatient and outpatient areas, delivered on site and offsite at Durham and South Tyneside.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but may be required to work at Durham Treatment Centre or South Tyneside Hospital. The role of the dental nurse is to provide quality care to all patients attending the Head and Neck Centre by supporting clinicians in outpatient clinics. The shift pattern is usually 8:30 am‑5:15 pm Monday to Friday. Staff in the Head and Neck Centre work closely with the multidisciplinary team and the Head and Neck ward (C33). The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care for patients, comply with the Trust’s vision, values and behavioural compact, and be involved in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care programmes within the unit.
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per the Trust Moving and Handling Policy
Qualifications
* Basic numeracy and literacy skills to Level 1 or equivalent
* Basic IT skills
* Registered Dental Nurse with a National Certificate in Dental Nursing
* Certificate in Conscious Dental Sedation or Orthodontics
* Evidence of professional development
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information
* Can work without supervision
* Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office
* Evidence of CPD
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills
* Flexibility in working patterns
Experience
* Registered Dental Nurse with a minimum of 12 months post‑registration experience
* Experience in a secondary health care setting
