They now have the opportunity for someone to join them and to lead them on the next phase of their journey.
The role of the Managing Director
This is a key role that will lead and manage the business alongside the Finance Director, HR Director and Sales & Commercial Director at the Sheffield facility. To complement the skills that we already have, we are very much looking for someone with an operations / production / engineering / manufacturing bias.
Reporting directly to the owners, you will provide strong, hands‑on leadership coupled with strategic direction, and commercial focus. The role is a highly visible one both internally and externally and you will be expected to build positive relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, investors and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all aspects of the business to include Sales, Finance, Design and Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Health and Safety to realise a business that is aligned with board and shareholder objectives.
* Ensure compliance with all legal and corporate regulatory requirements
* Drive commercial growth
* Developing a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, exceptional performance and quality
* Ensure operational efficiencies are achieved via robust financial management and cost control
* Assess performance metrics (OTIF, OEE, Cost of Quality, Production per FTE etc) to ensure that the business always performs at the pinnacle of efficiency
* Oversee any CAPEX projects, providing the business owners with business case, payback times, benefits etc
About You
* Able to demonstrate a track record of success in a Senior Leadership position – Managing Director, Operations Director, CEO / COO or similar. Statutory Director experience is very much preferred
* Experience of working in an SME environment
* Experience of the design and development of engineered products and the metals manufacturing sector is desirable. Forging, casting or other hot metal understanding would be perfect
* Strong experience of working on an international basis and of export markets. Experience of both direct B2B sales and distributor / agent agreements.
* Experience of working within a venture capital / private equity environment is preferable
* Commercially astute, familiar with profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, corporate finance etc
* Ability to lead change, inspire teams, and manage diverse stakeholder relationships.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision‑making skills.
* Detail‑oriented, hands‑on leadership style coupled with first class relationship building abilities
