The Role:
As a Disability Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils with a range of physical, sensory, or learning disabilities. You will help create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, enabling pupils to participate fully in lessons and school activities.
Main Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with disabilities.
Assist students with mobility, personal care, or daily routines as needed.
Support classroom learning by adapting resources and activities to individual needs.
Encourage pupil engagement, independence, and self-confidence.
Monitor and report on pupil progress to teachers and support staff.
Help manage behaviour in line with school policies and promote positive interactions.
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
Support pupils during breaks, lunchtimes, and extracurricular activities.
Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) or support strategies.
Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils.
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally with additional needs or someone willing to work with pupils with disabilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a caring approach to support.
Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ in Childcare/Teaching Assistance are desirable.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
