What to Expect
We are recruiting for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer – General Assembly to join our fantastic Manufacturing Team in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. As the Lead Manufacturing Engineer – GA, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of General Assembly (GA) manufacturing processes for an OEM environment.
This role ensures production readiness by integrating product, process, and equipment development while upholding quality, safety, cost, and delivery objectives. The role acts as a technical authority for General Assembly processes, working closely with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain.
What You'll Do
• Design and optimising GA processes, workflows, and layouts to meet vehicle build requirements and manufacturing best practices.
• Lead the industrialisation and launch of new vehicle programs in GA, ensuring timely delivery of tools, jigs, fixtures, and work instructions.
• Ensure GA line readiness for pre-production builds and SOP (Start of Production), including validation of build sequence, ergonomics, and cycle times.
• Define and implementing quality standards and error-proofing systems; support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for GA issues.
• Interface with Product Engineering for DFM/DFA feedback, support build feasibility reviews, and collaborate with ME peers in Body, Paint, and Final Assembly.
• Specify, procure, and commission GA tooling and automation; manage supplier integration and handover to production.
• Develop and maintain detailed PFMEAs, control plans, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
• Drive Kaizen, Lean, and Six Sigma initiatives to optimise productivity, reduce waste, and improve safety and quality.
What You'll Bring
• Deep understanding of GA manufacturing processes in an OEM or Tier 1 environment.
• Knowledge of automotive body structures, trim, chassis integration, and final line processes.
• Familiarity with production system design, plant layout, and lean manufacturing principles.
• Awareness of manufacturing readiness levels (MRLs), APQP, PPAP, and launch readiness gates.
• Proficient in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, or similar) for layout and tooling reviews.
• Skilled in simulation tools for process planning and digital mock-ups.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills (e.g., 8D, Ishikawa, FMEA).
• Experience with MES and manufacturing execution systems.
• Familiar with PLCs, automation systems, and robotics in GA.
• Ability to write and interpret technical documentation and specifications.
