Description Position Details College of Social Sciences Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,636 to £46,049 with potential progression once in post to £48,822 Grade: 7 Full Time, Fixed Term contract up to December 2027 Closing date: 8th July 2026 Background To support the design of a new ESRC/Health Foundation UK centre for implementing evidence in adult social care (‘IMPACT’). The new centre will begin with a co-design phase (April – December 2021), during which it will be consulting on the needs of the sector, agreeing key priorities and designing subsequent delivery. There is the significant potential for this role to become a permanent feature of IMPACT throughout its 6.5 year funding (subject to the model agreed during co-design). Role Summary Work as part of a team to support IMPACT’s co-design phase Administer and analyse a national survey to support the design of IMPACT’s work Contribute to early engagement and relationship building Contribute to the generation of IMPACT’s theory of change Supporting IMPACT’s Director and the Lived Experience Engagement Lead during the initial design of the centre Main Duties Responsibilities will include: Supporting IMPACT’s co-design phase Administering/analysing a national survey to understand the needs and priorities of the sector Contributing to IMPACT’s stakeholder engagement, the development of its theory of change and its engagement with people with lived experience of receiving adult social care Contributing to background literature reviews, design meetings and external events Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods Undertaking management/administration arising from the project Drafting policy and practice briefs Undertaking management/administration arising from the project Contributing to Departmental/School research-related activities and seminars Dealing with problems that may affect the achievement of centre objectives and deadlines Promoting equality and valuing diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture Person Specification Essential: First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications Experience of undertaking applied research in social care or health settings High level analytical capability Ability to communicate complex information clearly Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes Contributing to the planning and organising of the centre Working independently as well as part of a team Co-ordinating own work with others to ensure effective team-working A commitment to co-production and engagement A commitment to valuing the lived experience of people who use services and the practical knowledge of front-line staff Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly Desirable: PhD (or near to completion) in a relevant area and discipline (or near to completion), or equivalent qualifications Experience of working with social care leaders, commissioners, providers and/or front-line staff Experience of research which influences policy, practice and people’s lives Experience of research which engages people with lived experience and their carers Recognition of the very different policy and practice contexts in different parts of the UK Informal enquiries to Sheena Robertson, email: s.a.robertson@bham.ac.uk View our staff values and behaviours here Use of AI in applications: We want to understand your genuine interest in the role and for the written elements of your application to accurately reflect your own communication style.
