Medical Laboratory Assistant - Microbiology
An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Microbiology department at University Hospitals Dorset.
The Microbiology laboratory is well-equipped, fully computerised, holds UKAS accreditation, and is approved for training. We currently offer diagnostic microbiology to The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and general practice. The laboratory handles over 250,000 specimens annually.
The successful candidate will be part of the microbiology team providing diagnostic microbiology services, supporting clinical care and infectious disease control within the hospital and community. This varied role requires an adaptable and flexible working ethic. All training will be provided, enabling the candidate to backfill staff leave across sections.
This is an exciting time to join the Dorset pathology team as services are being reconfigured, including the construction of a new pathology hub at Bournemouth.
Working hours are 37.5 per week, including participation in a weekend rota.
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital
Interview Date: TBC
Post-training, MLAs will perform laboratory procedures such as processing diagnostic specimens. Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential, along with providing a professional service to patients and staff.
Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD, underpinning our interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues. UHD is investing in service development, with some services potentially relocating temporarily or permanently. Interviewers will address any questions about relocations during interviews.
If the role or service moves, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement; travel from home to the new site will be considered a normal commute. Other changes will follow relevant Trust or national policies.
