Consultant Medical Liaison with Safeguarding

As a medical liaison consultant you will play a key part in supporting the flow of inpatients at RNOH, working with multiple specialist services at RNOH to ensure that patients are safely discharged with appropriate onward care in place. We are looking for a part-time consultant to grow our team and develop this essential service. Of the 4 PA, 2 PA will be dedicated to Medical Liaison and the other 2 PA to managing Safeguarding across the Trust.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop specialist interests depending on their professional needs and have time working in a teaching capacity with specialist registrars across the Trust.


Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role is to provide a number of services for adults (18+) at RNOH including: ward referrals, support of non-consultant hospital staff, daily HDU liaison including reviewing step‑down patients, weekly ortho‑oncology meeting (with UCLH), daily MDT board rounds for orthopaedic in‑patients, weekly MDT complex case meeting (including psychiatry, anaesthetics and full MDT), weekly anaesthetic complex‑case meeting, weekly long‑stayers complex discharge meeting, safeguarding adults, and falls as well as educational supervision to NCHDs.

Additionally, this role will lead and guide the Trust on Safeguarding matters, working with the Safeguarding team.

Job responsibilities

This is a 4 PA role responsible for medical liaison and safeguarding. 2 PA will be DCC with involvement in ward huddles, HDU reviews and board rounds as well as reviews of any patients requiring Medical review. SPA is included for CPD, teaching, audit and quality work and service development.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* MRCP or GMC recognised equivalent qualification
* CCT in Geriatrics or Internal medicine or equivalent training
* On Specialist Register or within 6 months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
* Registered with the GMC including specialist registration for Medicine and progressing as expected in the revalidation cycle
* ALS


Experience

* Interest and experience in aspects of peri‑operative medicine such as pre‑assessment clinic.
* Ortho‑geriatric experience


Skills & Knowledge

* Proven leadership and organisational skills
* Effectively work within a team environment
* Commitment to CME and Revalidation
* Experience in clinical research and teaching
* Good understanding the NHS management structure
* Evidence of management training


Research, Teaching and Training

* Evidence of interest in teaching and training
* Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals
* Teaching course
* Evidence of ability to undertake assessments of trainees
* Demonstrate an interest in teaching and training


Safeguarding

* Hold current, appropriate registration with GMC and hold consultant status with a minimum of two years' experience as a consultant physician.
* Have completed Level 3 Safeguarding Children and Adult Training programme within last 2 years (or willing to complete before commencing role)
* Have a keen interest and relevant experience in adult safeguarding
* Have an awareness of, and/or experience in mental health and learning disability and the safeguarding risk/priorities for these
* Exhibit and use in their day-to-day work knowledge of adult safeguarding matters.
* Maintain up to date practice in relation to adult safeguarding.
* Have an understanding of local arrangements for adult safeguarding.
* Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
