We are seeking a caring, resilient and motivated SEMH Teaching Assistant (Pastoral & Wellbeing) to join our dedicated team on a temporary contract (30 hours per week). This role will involve working across the breadth of the school to support pupils' social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs both in and out of the classroom.
An SEMH TA supports students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, working to improve their behavior, engagement, and well-being to help them access the curriculum and integrate into mainstream environments. Key responsibilities include developing strong, supportive relationships with pupils, implementing strategies to manage behavior, providing emotional support and nurture, monitoring progress, and liaising with teachers, families, and other professionals.
The successful candidate will be passionate about nurturing the whole child, able to form strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families, and will bring a relational and supportive approach to behavioral management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work under the guidance of teaching and senior staff to deliver learning and care programmes that support pupil development and inclusion.
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN, adapting tasks and approaches to meet their individual needs.
* Deliver therapeutic-led activities and interventions to develop social and emotional skills, such as emotional literacy, mindfulness, or anger management strategies.
* Assist with the delivery of curriculum interventions, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
· Foster a safe and trusting relationship with pupils to help them manage their emotions and build self-esteem and resilience.
* Monitor and report on pupil progress and behaviour, maintaining effective communication with colleagues and families where appropriate.
* Support school activities and routines, including trips, events, and supervision duties.
Essential Skills & Qualities:
* Previous experience working with children in an educational or pastoral role.
* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
* A calm, relational approach to behaviour management.
* Commitment to nurturing the whole child and promoting wellbeing.
* Team player who can follow direction also take initiative and follow direction.
* Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
* PIPS training (or equivalent pastoral/behaviour support training).
* First Aid training.
* Experience within SEMH, pastoral, or wellbeing services.
* Phonics/ RWI training or experience.
