Paralegal – Employment
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Dependant on experience
Office base: Wigan, WN3 5BA – hybrid working after a period of training, minimum of 2-3 times a week in the office.
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

The Role
As a Paralegal in our Employment department, you'll support solicitors and the department manager by assisting with a wide range of employment law matters. This is a varied and fast‑paced role where you'll deal with client enquiries, help progress cases, and play an important part in delivering a high‑quality service.
You'll be involved in advisory work, case preparation, legal drafting, client contact and supporting colleagues throughout ongoing matters. With clear supervision, structured processes and excellent team support, this role offers a strong pathway for progression within employment law.

Key responsibilities include:
* Advising clients (mainly by telephone) on general employment law enquiries and helping convert enquiries into new work for the team
* Assisting with case management: taking instructions, drafting pleadings, preparing instructions to counsel and arranging conferences
* Preparing letters of claim, witness statements, funding documents and hearing bundles
* Attending conferences and hearings where required
* Undertaking legal research
* Requesting, reviewing and returning relevant documents
* Managing work in progress and ensuring accurate recording of chargeable and non‑chargeable hours under supervision
* Carrying out administrative tasks including filing, photocopying and bundle preparation
* Ensuring full compliance with client care, complaints procedures and regulatory obligations
About You

Essential:
You will need:
* A Law degree or relevant practical experience
* 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (grade C / 4 or above)
* Confidence using computers and the ability to learn new systems with training
* A strong understanding of UK employment law
* Clear communication skills (written and verbal)
* Research skills and the ability to break down information logically
* Organisational and time‑management approaches that help you keep on top of tasks
* The ability to meet deadlines with appropriate support
* The ability to manage periods of interruption
Desirable:
It's helpful, but not essential, if you also have:
* Legal Practice Course (LPC) qualification
* Study or work‑based experience in employment law
* Familiarity with employment litigation processes
* Experience using case management systems
* An understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules
* Awareness of client care and complaints procedures
