As part of the Senior Technical Manager role, you will manage and coordinate the technical team to ensure technical and design matters are delivered within the programme and budget.
You will report to the Technical Director regularly to ensure the BU’s portfolio of schemes are appropriately resourced, managed, monitored, and delivered on schedule.
You will manage and coordinate the team across multiple projects, including:
1. Managing the technical design process to ensure all design and technical issues are addressed within the development programme and budget.
2. Identifying and implementing ways to maximize value and manage costs through design and specifications throughout the development process.
3. Overseeing due diligence technical assessments for land bids, including optimizing consented schemes.
4. Collaborating with the D&P Executives to analyze designs at each stage to optimize value and meet programme deadlines.
5. Providing technical support to Commercial during procurement, to Production during construction, and to Customer Service post-occupancy.
6. Supporting the project team with technical matters such as Building Control, Utilities, Bonds, NHBC, and compliance with building regulations.
7. Ensuring the team complies with CDM/EMS procedures and understands the requirements of the CDM Regulations.
External Consultants
Work with the Technical Team to ensure briefs and scopes for design consultants are appropriate before appointment and that budgets for fees are effectively managed.
Manage external design consultants to ensure timely delivery of information within agreed budgets, in conjunction with the TC/TM.
Attend external design meetings with designers or consultants as appropriate.
Technical Design Standards
Create and manage an effective process to review, update, and regulate TW Design Standards across all projects.
Ensure consistency across projects in relation to best practices and lessons learned.
Manage and ensure integration of design standards and all Technical Bulletins issued by TW Group into projects.
General
Ensure appropriate resourcing of projects.
Liaise regularly with the Technical Director, including providing input into board reports.
Take responsibility for existing projects and manage the team to support new land acquisitions.
Motivate, communicate with, and manage the Technical team daily.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and support to the team.
Requirements
* Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g., MCIOB (Member of Chartered Institute of Building).
* Strong experience in the design, construction, and delivery of residential projects.
* Ability to manage all aspects of the design process to meet internal deadlines.
* Ability to critique and challenge development layouts, architectural, and engineering designs — a strong engineering background is advantageous.
* Ability to lead large and diverse teams.
* Excellent communication skills across disciplines and levels.
