We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a proactive and customer-focused Private Sector Housing Officer to support households in housing need by increasing access to private rented accommodation and helping prevent homelessness across the district.
This post is being advertised internally and externally and will play a key role in supporting the Council in preparation for and in response to changes arising from the Renters Reform Act, including increased engagement with landlords, tenants, and partner agencies, and supporting the Council’s approach to enforcement activity where required.
About the role
* Supporting households to access and sustain suitable private rented accommodation
* Working closely with landlords, letting agents, and partner agencies
* Contributing to homelessness prevention and the delivery of the Council’s housing objectives
* Supporting service readiness for legislative change within the private rented sector, including assisting with enforcement activity and attendance at court as required
Who we’re looking for
* Experience in housing options, housing advice and casework within a local authority or Registered Provider setting
* Strong partnership‑working skills, including engagement with external agencies
* Ability to manage complex cases and work confidently in multi‑agency environments
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer‑facing skills
* Good understanding of housing need, homelessness prevention and the private rented sector
* Strong organisational and IT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and produce clear written correspondence
* A creative, pragmatic problem‑solver who can work flexibly and champion service improvement
