Here at Ports of Jersey, we want everyone who travels through our airport terminal to have a great experience. Our security team plays a big part in helping to create that positive reality for our customers, and we are looking for more people to join our team.

We can only accept applications from individuals who hold a residential status of Entitled or Entitled for Work.

We're not looking for any security experience because we'll provide all the training you need to follow our process and regulatory commitments brilliantly and consistently. First and foremost, we're interested in your people skills and the way you engage confidently and courteously with everyone from all walks of life. We find being happy to help and making things easy with a ready smile, a kind word and a can-do attitude makes a world of difference for both customers and us.

This is a busy role and you'll find yourself on your feet most of the time, there's always something to do. Bending, stretching, searching and screening people, bags and vehicles and reviewing scanning machines and CCTV means that some activities are varied and some are routine. All of which helps to keep things interesting and fun, especially when you have a proactive and team-spirited attitude and take pride in what you do.

Working hours are from 05:30 in the morning until late in the evening seven days a week on a shift basis. As long as you're aged at least 18, we're open minded about the type of work you've done in the past, although something that involves interacting with the public would be preferable. Key Responsibilities


The role of Ports of Jersey Security Officer is critical for the smooth and safe running of the Airport. As a Security Officer you will be responsible for providing high quality and compliant security operations, ensuring that staff, premises and passengers remain safe and secure.

* Access control - controlling of access to the Airport, checking identification or travel documents for all passengers, and relevant ID cards, staff and Airport users requiring access.
* Patrolling - carry out foot patrols of the Airport to ensure they are secure and report any incidents accordingly.
* Passenger prep – preparing passengers for processing through the central search screening area, assisting and advising on how to transport liquids, electronics etc. for screening.
* Passenger / staff screening – the compliant screening of passengers and to the required standards at the airport, often performing physical searches where necessary.
* X-ray screening – screening/searching personal items, baggage and cargo in order to ensure no prohibited articles are brought on to our premises or on to Aircraft.
* Resolve queries from customers and assist them with their journey through the airport offering advice where necessary and high levels of customer service.
* Respond to and assist with emergency situations.
* Monitor CCTV and carry out daily and weekly reports.
* Support the Security Team Leader with ensuring the Security operation at the Airport works as efficiently as possible.
* Read and adhere to security notices, completing documentation clearly and concisely on any incidents that may have occurred.


Skills Knowledge and Expertise

* Have excellent customer service and communication skills with customers, regularly communicating clearly and concisely in a format appropriate to the recipient.
* Basic IT skills and sufficient colour perception to use colour X-ray equipment. Must complete Ishihara or equivalent test.
* Have an ability to deliver verbal and written reports where necessary.
* An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to passengers' needs.
* Understand the importance of Health & Safety responsibilities and to maintain compliance with best practice and legal requirements.
* To undertake and successfully complete all training modules in order to meet company Health and Safety standards and AVSEC standards.

We also offer a pension scheme to those on permanent contracts, the main benefits of the scheme are as follows;

* 5% employer contribution rate on basic salary plus shift
* Employees can make voluntary contributions and ports will match 1% for 1% up to an employer maximum matched contribution of 5% e.g. Employee opts to contribute 5% Ports will match this and the total employer contributions would become 10%
* You are eligible to join the pension scheme the month after successful completion of your probation
* Minimum joining age – 18
* You are not able to join the pension scheme once you reach Government of Jersey state retirement age
* Cash sum payable to nominated beneficiary if the member dies in service
