Role summary
We are looking for a hands-on Production Assembler to join Monitran's manufacturing team. This is a practical, detail-focused role building precision sensor assemblies and sub-assemblies. The ideal candidate will be confident with manual soldering, able to read engineering drawings and bills of material, follow assembly procedures and work across multiple small batch projects at the same time.
Key responsibilities
* Perform hand soldering of electronic and cable assemblies to company standard and IPC-style cleanliness/quality expectations (hand soldering experience is essential).
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, assembly procedures and bills of material; follow documented build procedures step-by-step.
* Strip, terminate and crimp cables accurately to specified lengths and tolerances.
* Assemble mechanical stacks and sub-assemblies, including washers, screws, seals and sub-components.
* Prepare assemblies for potting/resin applications and carry out potting operations to procedure (mixing, dispensing, curing).
* Clean and wash metal parts and sensor housings prior to assembly and potting to ensure correct adhesion and surface finish.
* Build and fit stacks into sensor cans, verify fit and orientation, and perform routine in-process checks.
* Work on several concurrent small projects / build batches and manage build paperwork (checklists, serial numbers, test records).
* Follow test/inspection procedures; record results and flag non-conforming items to supervisor.
* Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area; follow all health & safety and EHS procedures.
* Occasional use of laser machine or other production equipment (desirable — training can be provided if needed).
* Support continuous improvement and small process change trials when requested.
Required skills & experience
* Proven experience in a manufacturing or electronics assembly environment with strong hand soldering (this is essential).
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and bills of materials; comfortable following written assembly procedures.
* Experience stripping and terminating cables, working with small fasteners and precision mechanical assembly.
* Good manual dexterity, attention to detail and the ability to work under magnification where required.
* Good written and verbal communication skills and basic numeracy for parts counting and record keeping.
* Comfortable working on multiple projects/batches simultaneously and keeping accurate build records.
Desirable skills
* Experience with potting/resin processes and working to potting procedures.
* Previous experience with laser processing equipment (cutting/marking) or willingness to be trained.
* Basic welding experience (helpful for some mechanical work).
* Experience working in a small-batch/high-quality, calibrated product environment (e.g., sensors, precision instruments).
* Familiarity with traceability and calibration paperwork used in sensor manufacture. (Monitran calibrates and individually tests sensors before shipment.)
Qualifications
* No formal degree required; relevant vocational qualifications or practical experience preferred (e.g., electronics assembly, IPC soldering qualification an advantage).
* Basic IT literacy (entering job / serial number data into manufacturing records / using barcode labels).
Physical & working conditions
* Manual work standing at bench for prolonged periods.
* Occasional lifting of small/medium parts and stock (training on safe lifting will be provided).
* Work with chemicals (resins/cleaners) in correct PPE — adherence to COSHH and company safety rules is required.
* Small-batch production environment with emphasis on quality, traceability and consistent processes. (Monitran manufactures in the UK and focuses on robust sensor housings for industrial use.)
