Job overview
An exciting opportunity has presented for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to develop their skills in this 9 month secondment operational role. We are looking for a Lead Pharmacy Technicians to cover maternity leave in the QMC Controlled drugs room at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Joining a group of Lead Technicians, the role support the Chief Technicians to ensure we deliver a safe and high-quality Pharmacy dispensary service. Working within the Lead Technician group this role will manage the day-to-day coordination of the controlled drug room to ensure a timely and accurate top up service. As well as this other duties will include:
* Provide training and assessment for Pharmacy Dispensary staff, in line with the Trust's CD policies to ensure provision of a high-quality service.
* Manage stock holding and accuracy of stock balances, investigating any discrepancies immediately in line with the Trust CD policies
* Ordering and receiving of Controlled drugs from suppliers
* Completion of legal paperwork and filing this away
This role is a great opportunity to develop leadership and organisational skills within a busy acute hospital Pharmacy setting.
Main duties of the job
* Support staff training, in line with the Trust's CD procedures and staff validations, working with the Pharmacy Education and Training team.
* Dispense and check Controlled drug to wards, ensuring they're on ward stock lists, and enquiring with the clinical ward teams if not.
* Oversee day-to-day stock holding and ordering in the QMC controlled drugs room.
* Organise and lead regular rolling and year-end stock takes, ensuring procedures are followed to maintain accurate stock balances and discrepancies are investigated and reconciled in liaison with a Chief Technician.
* Destruction of Patient own medicine (POM)
* Assist in the monitoring of service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure quality, effectiveness and efficiency.
* Review service standards and provisions and implement change where appropriate through improvement work.
* Support managing Dispensary staffing absence supported by the Trust Wellbeing and Attendance Management policy.
* Involved in the recruitment and selection of Pharmacy Dispensary service staff.

* Qualified Pharmacy Technician registered (or has ability to register) with the General Pharmaceutical Council
