Product Safety Engineer
Location: Crawley – hybrid working (minimum 3 days at office)
Key Tasks / Responsibilities
* Support Project Design Authorities by delivering complex safety programmes for Thales products, systems, and services.
* Apply and leverage Systems Safety Engineering knowledge to complex systems.
* Undertake Systems Safety activities and assessments to influence design.
* Generate and update safety cases and other key safety artefacts.
* Work in multidisciplinary project/product teams to identify and manage hazards and risks.
* Collaborate with Bid teams to develop estimates and safety strategies for future business ventures.
* Develop next‑generation Mission Management Systems or Secure Information Systems for military helicopter platforms.
* Provide ongoing support and sustainment of in‑service products, including Avionics Mission Systems and Secure Intercom Systems.

* Comfortable with ambiguity and eager to tackle new challenges daily.

* Excellent communication skills at all levels, able to decompose complexity and present it in simple terms.
What You’ll Need
* A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area.
* Experience of Systems Safety Engineering activities in a complex, safety‑focused, and regulated organisation (e.g., rail, aerospace, nuclear, oil & gas).
* Experience of preparing complex Safety Cases and familiarity with ALARP principles.
* Demonstrable experience with System Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Common Cause Failure Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), FMECA, Hazard Logs, and System Hazard Analysis Reports.
* Ability to work collaboratively in an engineering development environment, ensuring Systems Safety compliance throughout the project life cycle.
* Experience with standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, Def Stan 00‑056, Def Stan 00‑051, ARP4761, DO178, DO254, etc.
* Professional qualification or working towards one (e.g., IEng/CEng).
