Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer Defence Industry 6 Month Contract
Nicholas Howard is recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading Global Aerospace and Defence client, based in Bedfordshire.
Experience within the defence industry, specifically working with Armoured Fighting Vehicles and associated systems (Survivability, Lethality, Structures, Communications, Sights, and Sensors), is essential for this role.
Must have in-depth knowledge of CREO CAD and Windchill software. Experience in the Aerospace industry and/or military applications is highly desirable.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for design, prototyping, design validation, engineering documentation, and supporting calculations. This role requires innovative thinking and the ability to develop ideas into functioning, manufacturable products that meet design specifications and legislation. The engineer will work within a team to design high-integrity components, complex mechanisms, and linkages suitable for challenging military environments.
This position is ideal for a strong Mechanical Design engineer with full process experience from concept to completion, especially with complex mechanisms.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Develop innovative and robust design solutions based on requirements specifications and design briefs.
2. Utilize CREO Parametric CAD to produce concept and detailed designs.
3. Provide supporting calculations and analysis to justify design decisions.
4. Collaborate with SMEs, users, and design authorities to develop concept solutions.
5. Coordinate with other design engineers to develop integrated sub-system designs.
6. Work with CAD engineers to produce drawings and data packs.
7. Create and present design review data packs to senior staff.
8. Assist in prototyping and coordinate with manufacturing and purchasing teams for design confirmation.
9. Conduct physical testing and design validation activities on prototypes.
10. Ensure components and assemblies comply with industry standards and safety legislation.
11. Proven experience in designing and developing mechanical sub-systems and components.
12. Extensive knowledge of CREO CAD for complex parametric designs.
13. Experience using Windchill PDM system.
14. Deep understanding of complex mechanism design and principles.
15. Ability to perform basic structural and kinematic calculations.
16. Track record of successful design in harsh environments.
17. Knowledge of current materials, treatments, and finishing technologies for defence products.
18. High attention to design detail and documentation quality.
19. Effective planning, scheduling, coordination, and problem-solving skills both individually and within a team.
