The role

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.

About the Team

You’ll join a supportive community adult social care team covering Bath and working with adults with a range of needs to promote independence, wellbeing and positive outcomes. The team values collaborative, strengths‑based practice and reflective working, with regular supervision and peer support. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues in an environment that encourages learning, professional development and high‑quality, person‑centred practice.

About the Role

As a Social Worker within Adult Social Care, you will play a key role in supporting adults to live as independently as possible, promoting wellbeing, safety and positive outcomes through strengths-based practice.

This opportunity is suitable for both newly qualified Social Workers completing their ASYE and experienced Social Workers. The role will be shaped according to your level of experience:

  • ASYE Social Workers will manage a supported and protected caseload, working under close supervision to build confidence, skills and professional judgement, in line with the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment framework. Grade 8 (£38,220 to £40,777 per annum).
  • Qualified Social Workers will independently manage a varied and sometimes complex caseload, applying professional expertise and making informed decisions within a multi‑agency environment. Grade 9 (£42,839 to £46,142 per annum).

Across both levels, you will work within a strong legislative framework, supporting individuals, families and carers through assessment, planning and review, while contributing to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated, thoughtful and compassionate Social Worker who is committed to supporting adults to live independently and achieve positive outcomes.

This role is suitable for both newly qualified Social Workers (ASYE) and those with post‑qualifying experience, and we will support you according to your level of experience.

You will:

  • Bring a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach to your work
  • Be committed to promoting independence, wellbeing and choice
  • Demonstrate an understanding of risk, safeguarding and professional responsibility, with the ability to seek guidance where appropriate
  • Be able to build effective relationships with individuals, families, carers and professionals
  • Work well as part of a team, valuing reflection, supervision and continuous learning
  • Be organised and able to manage a caseload appropriate to your experience, with support where needed

For experienced Social Workers, you will also be confident in:

  • Working more autonomously, making informed, evidence‑based decisions
  • Managing complex situations and higher levels of risk
  • Contributing to a multi‑agency environment and supporting others where appropriate

For ASYE Social Workers, you will be supported to:

  • Develop your confidence in assessment, decision‑making and care planning
  • Build your skills through structured supervision and a protected caseload

You’ll need:

  • A Degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification recognised by Social Work England)
  • Registration with Social Work England (or working towards this for ASYE candidates).
  • Experience (through placement or practice) of working with adults with a range of needs, including physical disabilities, learning disabilities or mental health needs
  • Knowledge of key legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and safeguarding duties.
  • Ability to undertake or contribute to assessments, care planning and reviews.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively with individuals and families
  • Confidence in working collaboratively with partners, including health colleagues and care providers
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritise workload, with appropriate support

And:

  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
