OPERATIONS MANAGER – LEADING GARDEN CENTRE – WEST END SOUTHAMPTON – UP TO £43,000 STARTING SALARY

We’re currently supporting the recruitment of an Operations Manager for a large, high-footfall garden centre near Southampton.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational leader to take ownership of the key back-of-house and compliance functions in a busy, customer-focused retail and leisure environment. The role covers health & safety compliance, goods in, customer services, stock control and audit processes, working closely with the General Manager and other senior leaders to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the centre.
As Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
·Leading, developing, and inspiring the operational teams (Goods In, Inventory Control, and Customer Services) to deliver outstanding results.
·Overseeing health & safety compliance, maintenance, and operational procedures across the site.
·Managing stock control processes, audits, and loss prevention to meet targets.
·Driving efficiency and accuracy in all operational areas while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
·Controlling budgets, labour costs, and operational KPIs in line with business goals.
·Acting as Duty Manager and covering for the General Manager in their absence.
We’re looking for an operations professional who:
·Has experience managing large teams in a busy retail, leisure, or hospitality environment.
·Understands stock control, budget management, and operational compliance.
·Can lead multiple departments with a “one team” approach.
·Has excellent communication and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
·Is commercially aware, organised, and able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on leadership.
·Has strong knowledge of health & safety and enjoys maintaining high standards.
