Offer description

A Structural Analyst job in London is available with a specialist engineering consultancy with a focus on the forensic investigation of civil engineering and structural engineering defects.

The Structural Analyst role in London supports specialist Civil Engineers, Chartered Engineers and Engineering Expert Witnesses to research, understand and write reports relating to client problems such as structural failures, inadequate durability of steel and concrete structures, problems with basement structures, matters relating to period buildings, concerns or failure of heavily loaded industrial floors and pavements, and drainage and flooding problems relating to both buildings and civil engineering structures.

Responsibilities and Duties

The job of Structural Analyst is a critical role for the London-based company and offers an excellent civil engineering career opportunity.

Using your engineering qualifications and chartership study with real-world design consultancy experience you will engage in Structural Analyst work to assist the resident experts research and identify key issues relating to the client assignment.

Structural Analysis will be undertaken on a range of projects including heavy civil engineering works, hydraulic structures, offshore platforms, below-ground construction, structural steelwork, waterproofing systems, concrete durability and epoxy resin applications in construction to establish probable causes of failure, delay, and damage, describe key remedial factors, and identify the party at fault responsible for remediation.

You will be required to liaise with the client's consulting engineers, contractors and the building or project owners on engineering issues at hand.

You will be involved with a wide range of disputes, usually concurrently, and will undertake Structural Analysis of professional design work completed relating to design, materials and workmanship problems.

Desired Skills and Experience

The role requires previous Structural Analyst experience, ideally on a wide range of structural and civil engineering projects in the UK and overseas.

It is expected to be an early to mid‑career role for the right candidate, with some exposure to relevant design work on civil-engineering structures, post‑tensioned concrete bridges, buildings, vibrations in buildings, subsidence, floor screeds, building envelopes and familiarity with contract administration being desirable.

Experience liaising with solicitors and barristers and preparing CPR‑compliant reports and joint statements is ideal, but training can be provided.

All levels of experience will be considered on merit, but at least 5 years' experience is required to meet minimum expertise levels.

Exposure to dispute and forensic engineering analysis work is highly desirable; candidates with a strong civil or structural background demonstrating high analytical and literacy skills will also be considered.

Qualifications / Educational Requirements

* A high quality civil engineering or structural engineering degree is essential, preferably from a leading recognised university.
* Chartership within civil engineering or structural engineering is also essential.
