JOB DESCRIPTION
GMB Southern Region is seeking applications for the role of Regional Organiser from highly motivated individuals with a desire to help us build and organise the membership of the union.
GMB is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest trade unions: we’re proud to represent members from across the professional spectrum and put the needs of our members at the forefront of everything we do.
The successful candidate will join a high performing, high achieving team of union organisers to actively promote and deliver on the union’s organising and campaigning strategy. Leading GMB reps, workplace organisers and activists to develop campaigns that deliver in the workplace, you will lead from the front in building sustainable workplace organisation that wins for our members.
The role will be in our Area 2 Team, based in our Hove office, but the successful applicant needs to be aware that they may be required to work from any location within GMB Southern Region at the discretion of the GMB Southern Regional Secretary, in order to meet the needs of GMB Southern Region. The role requires extensive driving around the Region.
Applicants must have a proven record of the following:
1. Campaigning, servicing, organising and recruitment
2. A broad understanding of trade union objectives, and a strong personal commitment to these objectives
3. A commitment to supporting and developing lay activists
4. Applicants must be prepared to work as a team, and the successful candidate would display strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in challenging environments
5. On a personal basis, the applicant would need to display energy, enthusiasm, resilience, commitment, and an ability to use individual initiative.

6. Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
7. The hours of work for the role are unspecified and will necessarily entail an element of unsocial hours, including weekend work. Periods of working away from home will also be required.
8. The successful candidate will be allocated a fleet car as there will be a need for travel to other offices and workplaces across the Region.
