Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join our extremely busy yet friendly Oncology team based at Cheltenham General Hospital. This role supports the Outpatient Services in Oncology for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a working pattern of 5 days a week Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* Use voice recognition software to transcribe and proofread clinically dictated letters.
* Type and proofread clinical letters and correspondence to patients, GPs, medical staff and other addressees following clinical attendance or other patient contacts, as directed by the secretary supervisor.
* Type detailed medical reports for legal use when necessary.
* Assist consultant staff with production and transcription of letters.
* Take and transcribe minutes as appropriate.
* Chase scan results.
* Manage diaries, including coordinating appointments, booking meeting dates and venues, and organising and distributing documents as required by the clinical team or supervisor.
* Manage busy mailboxes and telephones.
* Liaise with external organisations such as GP surgeries and other hospitals to support patient care.
* Take ownership and responsibility for the workload of a team of consultants, doctors and nurses.
* Support wider secretarial teams as necessary under the supervision of the Supervisor Secretaries.
Qualifications
* Secretarial experience, preferably in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced office environment.
* Excellent work ethic, organised and communicative, with exceptional team‑working skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
